Mystic Mountain Mama

One of my favorite restaurants in Cambridge is Life Alive. They make scrumptious, nourishing meals that are primarily plant-based. I highly recommend visiting their restaurants if you are in the Boston area (they also have locations in Lowell and Salem)!

My first love at Life Alive was their Mystic Mountain Bowl. I have recreated it in my own home with my mom’s hummus recipe, and thus have renamed it “Mystic Mountain Mama.”


  • Mesclun greens
  • 1/3 granny apple, chopped
  • 1 carrot, shredded
  • 1 beet, chopped
  • Sprouts & sprouted beans
  • Handful of cashews
  • 3 tablespoons of hummus (see recipe below)


  • Prep all salad ingredients and add in a large bowl
  • Make hummus
  • Add hummus on top to complete your Mystic Mountain Mama!

Hummus Ingredients:

  • 2 cans of cooked chickpeas, drained
  • 3 cloves of garlic, peeled
  • 1.5 lemon, juiced
  • 1/3 cup of olive oil
  • 1/3 cup of tahini paste
  • 1/2 cup of warm water
  • 1 tablespoon cumin, heaping
  • Salt and ground pepper, to taste

Hummus Recipe:

  • Combine all ingredients in food processor until smooth and creamy
  • Add additional water if too chunky
