ROO Video: The Journey to Entoto

The Yaya Girls journeyed to Entoto for a challenging workout. They live at 8,858 feet in Sululta, Ethiopia, however wanted the higher altitude of over 10,000 feet for their kilometer reps. Their workout consisted of 4k, 3k, 2k with 2 minutes rest in between on a hilly field loop. In order to get to Entoto, the Yaya Girls traveled around 90 minutes by minibus and foot. ROO Video: Yoga For Runners – A Dynamic Cooldown

When I tell runners I teach yoga, they often respond, “I can’t do yoga, I am too inflexible” or “I can’t even touch my toes!” Runners are not meant to be super flexible— with many miles of running, runners’ bodies adapt to the repetitive motion and their hamstrings, hips, and more contract. Why I Love the Lunge Warm Up

I have had the honor of working at the Boulder Running Camps in Colorado for the past two weeks, founded and directed by the amazing Coach Jay Johnson, who is featured on the ROO Podcast #27. We teach committed high school runners numerous elements for improving their running. One of my favorite exercises I have learned at the camp is The Lunge Warm Up, which Coach Johnson advocates before every run and is based on Physical Therapist Gary Gray’s Lunge Matrix. Three reasons why I love it? Takes less than 5 minutes— short and sweet! Moves through all three essential planes …
